Upgrade to the Tesla Model Y for a Higher More Comfortable Ride

After several years driving a Tesla Model 3, I still like the way it drives. The problem is that getting down into a lower car every day starts to wear on you after a while.

That was the main reason the Model Y became a pretty easy choice for us. We wanted something that still felt familiar, but with a higher seating position and a little more space.

Quick Answer

The Tesla Model Y was the better fit for us because it keeps much of what we liked about the Model 3, but makes daily use more comfortable. Instead of stepping down into the car, you step into it.

If you already like the Model 3 but want a higher ride, easier entry, and a cabin that still feels familiar, the Model Y is the natural upgrade path.

Why The Model 3 Started To Feel Low

The Model 3 is still a great-driving car. I like the way it handles, and it has that lower, sportier feel that makes it fun to drive.

But after four or five years, the low seating position becomes more noticeable. It is not that the Model 3 is hard to use, but it does feel more like sitting down into a sports car.

For us, comfort started to matter more than that lower driving position. At this point, I would rather step into a car than step down into one.

Why The Model Y Made Sense

The Model Y felt like the obvious next Tesla for us because it gives you a higher seating position without making the car feel completely unfamiliar.

The easiest way I can describe it is this: it feels like someone took a Model 3 and pulled the roof upward. You sit higher, the car feels a little bigger, and the daily entry and exit are more comfortable.

That higher ride is really the point. If you are comparing the Model 3 and Model Y, the Model Y is not just about cargo space. It is also about how the car fits into normal everyday use.

What Feels Familiar

Inside, the Model Y feels very close to the Model 3. The layout, screen, and general Tesla cabin experience are basically the same.

That familiarity was part of the appeal. We were not trying to relearn a completely different car. We already liked the Tesla setup, so moving into the Model Y felt easy.

For someone coming from a Model 3, that can be a real advantage. You get the higher seating position and extra room, but the controls and interior design still feel like home.

Who This Upgrade Fits

I would look seriously at the Model Y if you like the Model 3 but want something easier to live with day to day.

The biggest reason is comfort. Getting in and out is easier, the seating position is higher, and the vehicle feels more practical without losing the familiar Tesla feel.

If you love the lower, sportier feel of the Model 3, you may still prefer it. But if you are starting to notice the lower entry height or want something that feels more upright, the Model Y is probably the better fit.

  • Good fit if you want a higher seating position
  • Good fit if getting in and out of the Model 3 feels too low
  • Good fit if you want a familiar Tesla interior
  • Less ideal if you specifically want the lower sports-car feel of the Model 3

Key Takeaways

  • The Model Y made sense for us because it is easier and more comfortable to get in and out of than the Model 3.
  • The Model 3 still drives well, but the lower seating position can become less appealing after years of daily use.
  • The Model Y feels very familiar inside if you already know the Model 3.
  • The biggest everyday difference is the higher ride and more upright entry.
  • If you want a Tesla that feels practical without feeling unfamiliar, the Model Y is a strong next step from the Model 3.
